Are your parents in position?

As a parent of a college-bound student looking for financial aid, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Financial aid is not just the FAFSA and the other institutional forms. Financial aid is also about parent positioning.

This can be the single most important aspect of the financial aid process. The results of your asset positioning effort can help you use the FAFSA to your advantage.

Parent positioning is learning how to protect your assets from the FAFSA and financial aid process so you can qualify for more financial aid and use less of your own money. If you think you make too much money to qualify for financial aid, you’re probably wrong. Virtually everyone qualifies for at least some financial aid … if you just know how to use the qualifying criteria to your advantage.

Your assets are reported on the FAFSA and/or the CSS profile. It will be to your advantage to shelter some of these assets from the financial aid formula. Be sure you know which assets can and can’t be considered non-includible.

Parent positioning is your opportunity to get back some of your hard-earned money that you’ve been paying in taxes all these years. If you want to know how your assets will affect your financial aid package, contact us for more information or to attend one of our complimentary upcoming workshops.
